I had the same problem and lost some clumps of hair. Your instincts are
correct, this is a PHP problem. Did you install pear? On SuSE:
pear install DB
pear install archive_tar
pear install console_getopt
pear install xml_rpc
pear install pear
pear install db
And modified /etc/php.ini with
include_path = "/usr/share/php"
You will most likely have to modify the above instructions for your
distribution.
PLEASE HELP before i have to loose my mind and blow my head
of / sound dramatic but after a week trying insanity is
comming closer and closer THANKS for ANY help!
Haha, sounds familiar. It takes a while to learn all these software
packages. On the bright side everything else is probably now setup properly.
You should enable logging in mysql to see what is going on. This is the
biggest diagnostic help. You can find in the archives how to do it, or
google.

THANKS!!!! BUT - I got this strange behaviour when i try to install DB
(all other packages work)
