It appears to me that your system is trying to authenticate through
DIGEST-MD5, wich will not work with web-cyradm.
Test your SMTP server with:
telnet 127.0.0.1 25
EHLO localhost.localdomain
it should return
250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN
250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN
among others.
In case the AUTH parameter shows anything besides AUTH LOGIN PLAIN and
AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN, check the sasl config file, named "smtp.conf". I'm not
sure where it is in debian, but in an red hat like system, it would be
placed at /usr/lib/sasl and /usr/lib/sasl2. Make sure it contains
pwcheck_method: saslauthd
mech_list: plain login
After this is working, your saslauthd must be configured to authenticate
through pam. But seems like you've got it working out already.
Check it out and let us know.
Cheers,
Giovani

Subject: RE: [Web-cyradm] Cyradm - SASL problem
There are many files in /etc/pam.d/. Exept for imap they all says:
@include common-auth
@include common-account
Where common-auth says:
auth required pam_unix.so nullok_secure
And common-account says;
account required pam_unix.so
Exept for imap, which I have changed to not use these common things, but
pasted what's Luc's how to, and of course changed the password. Now I also
have changed the crypt to 0.
Does saslauthd logg to somewhere?
