The purpose of the logo polling thread was to determine whether there was sufficient interest in the Max the snake logo such that we should pursue further development. The polling was to offer the community an opportunity to voice their opinion. This was done at Massimo's request, expressed in a private email between Massimo and Richard (me) prior to the polling. Perhaps different terminology should have been used, but I think expectations were properly set, especially when Massimo weighed in early on and said that he wasn't going to use the new logo, regardless. Also, in the post, I acknowledged that it wasn't a democratic process. And I'm on record in earlier threads stating that Massimo should have the last say in any logo selection, process. So the only people who might have been confused were those who didn't read the posts, in which case, confusion would prevail regardless of what anyone does or says. But from the responses posted publicly and the ones I received privately, the only confusion seemed to be from the moderator who shut down the thread before I had time to tally the results.
But let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill. There are more important issues to deal with here and no harm was done, I hope, and certainly not to me. My intent was to give Diane's effort the visibility and attention it deserved and to offer this group an alternative icon to promote web2py. Diane is a terrific animator and by looking carefully at the various iterations on the logo it's clear that she's able to imbue the few lines that comprise Max the snake with tons of personality. She has given permission to use the sketches as anyone sees fit. Please give her the appropriate attribution if anyone does decide to use her work. As for my work on this issue: it is done. The tribe has spoken. Max will go into retirement and eat tunafish until he dies of mercury poisoning, hopefully at a ripe old age. Richard p.s. in regards to MDP's post above, I think it would be useful to have a place where voting can be done more formally. Where the balloting process is web2py driven. And where the issue being voted on can be clearly stated. This will make the process more efficient. Then, let anyone post a vote (web2py related). It will be a useful surveying mechanism, and there are no wrong issues or answers. All of it is information. And copious amounts of info will help the web2py development team going forward. Try to exercise as little censorship as possible. Threads should be closed down only under extreme circumstances, like people flaming irresponsibly (e.g. silly name calling), or coopting the site for purposes other than responsible web2py discussion.
