I did a little checking on this, with the following results. 1. I received Carl's original message (yesterday) via email. 2. I found the message via the GG interface by looking at all messages sorted by date. 3. I did not find the message searching within GG, either from the group search page, or the global GG advanced-search page. 4. I did find the message via a web-wide Google search. Strange.
