I learned the hard way that Python 2.4 is no longer supported by web2py and a lot of the new stuff in the trunk requires Python 2.5 or higher. I had submitted several patches to support Python 2.4, but they were rejected because maintaining Python 2.4 support really is a pain, which is why web2py dropped support for it.
