Yes, but that deployment has a "mega" (and I mean huge) rack-mounted
battery backup for the few servers and accessories - hence why the
MySQL server there has been running for 629 days so far on Mac OS X
10.4.8 client on an old DP G5 xserve..... in the next few months it
will have to be restarted for an upgrade. .... ah yes, MySQL, so
reliable! ;-) ....... besides the mysql master is configured for a
flush to disk on every transaction to ensure replication durability,
so the 3 slaves are there to protect data too.

Hi Reid,
Thanks for the recommendations. I am surprised by the differences
in pricing ...... the Weibetech enclosure is $767 on amazon and the
rocstor enclosure is just $214 at amazon. Is the Weibetech really
that much better, or just overpriced? I will say one thing though,
I like their "Trayless" feature ..... no screws, frames or
anything ... just slide in the bare drive. OWC enclosure is $478
and has the advantage of being a rack-mount enclosure (which suits
this particular situation). Both the OWC and the Weibetech use the
exact same RAID controller, the Oxford 936. The rocstor does not
say what controller, but it is different I think since the RAID
choices are very different to the other two.

Keep in mind that while these are RAID, it is not as safe as using a
true RAID controller would be, meaning cacheing and a battery to
back up that cache in case of a power failure. Correct me if I'm
wrong, but I think the setup you are describing will still be
susceptible to data corruption if the power is cut during the middle
of a write.
