I want platters + smart SSD cache, there is plenty of stuff stored on my HDD 
that I almost never access, but I still want it there. I don't need huge gobs 
of SSD storage on my mac, I just need enough to keep the stuff that matters on 
it.

Solaris' ZFS can do this now, using SSD drives as a front line cache to an 
array of spindle drives. You get speed and resilience.

I use OpenSolaris + ZFS for my home storage array, I want ZFS on my Mac too 
dammit :)
