I can't explain why the second alert() statement failed because one can refer to a form by its name, transactionForm, or its forms array member, forms['transactionForm'], just as one can refer to an element by its name, getCat, or its elements array member, elements ['getCat']. Maybe the transactionForm didn't exist when the second alert() statement failed.
