About the license: Frontbase is indeed free now and the license is non-expiring, you just need to get the string from the website -> Buy -> Order License. (Frontbase changed the text on the website in the meantime, the expiring license still referred to the old developer version) About the concerns: I forwarded Guido's concerns to Geert Clemmensen from FrontBase and would like to share his reply with the list below. - Doesn't use index with or-clauses.
The latest 4.x build does actually improve on this in certain cases.
- Has problems with some types of joins (extremely slow).
We haven't really worked with other servers, but I'm dead sure that for any server out there, you can find joins that server A excels at, while server B has some challenges.
We had also issues with crashes sometimes without being able to reproduce it.
Whenever we have heard about this type of problems, we have always responded asap. If the problem isn't easy to reproduce, we always suggest a procedure (stop database, copy database, start with -logSQL, ...) that in min. 98% of the situations have lead to a for us reproducible situation, i.e. we can fix the problem.
