You suspect wrong. Java Client was not given up on, even though D2JC (which is one of the approaches to it) is depreciated.

Even though, personally, I do not use nor like D2JC. I use other JC capabilities of WO.

Jean, I do not know an answer to your question, but David Avendasora (you can find him among the list posts) uses D2JC a lot, and was quite involved in it, I suggest you approach him directly (sometimes he is not checking the list posts), I am quite sure he won't mind. Maybe he'll be able to give you a more concrete answer.
