Ted, In general, when you are using one of the alternative frontend frameworks (SproutCore,Cappuccino, etc) you are no longer using WO to generate the front-end/html, so you are better off seeking getting started examples from their respective sites.
On the backend ERRest can generate json, plist, or xml and I believe it has a specific json variant tuned for SproutCore.
