My sincere thanks to everyone who has advised me on this topic.
I had 3 risk issues that I was trying to assess and which you generous folk
have helped me nail down better.
(1) WO lifespan - was it endangered? The answer is a resounding NO.
There is a thriving open source community enhancing the frameworks
based on the last Apple release (5.4.3 which I have successfully DL'd
from Apple)
Furthermore the Eclipse IDE (I've used Galileo) plus WOnder and WOLips
are the
recommend add-ins for WO development.
BTW which version of Eclipse to use for WO development?
(2) Java on MacOS X Lion and greater - was it endangered? Again the answer is
NO.
Apple turned things over to Oracle and the Java community for SE 7. viz
OpenJDK.
It appears that Java SE 7 is due out mid-2011 from Oracle and will have
MacOS X JVMs.
Apparently the JDK 7 previews are available now.
(3) What is the details of the situation with the present app and it problems
and upgradeability.
That's up to me to do some more diagnosis with the client now that (1)
and (2) are clarified.
A final question - if we want to list a job or project opening
is the correct procedure to have it moderated by the list moms
before posting to this list? If so how do I contact them?
