Place a notice on the homepage of OpenSolaris.org that tells the
new user what the situation is.

Maybe you need to be more clear with that last sentence.
I think you are giving a lecture to the wrong person.

Here is my perspective :

    (0) the SXCE/SXDE ISO's are inside a Sun server somewhere.
I could get them easily straight into my jumpstart server.
        Life is good.

    (1) SDLC makes some change without talking with the end user.

    (2) The ability to do those rapid updates, easily, .. goes away.

    (3) Talk about it on a maillist.

    (4) Get told that you can't fix the problem and you are not allowed
to anyways. By the way, there are encumbered bits in there and
we are jammed into this situation. Yes it says "community"
        release but .. so sorry.

    (5) Get a lecture from some guy.

Well, let me look at the maillists. I have not written much. I once did
during the pilot and then in the first year. I keep getting into the same
situation every time. Meanwhile Blastwave pushed out open source software
to 45,000 unique users last month and about 19,000 thus far this month.
Maybe I'll just wander off and focus on that side of things. Everytime I
write something here I get a "perception issue" notice.
