we have a sponsoring offer at hand which we intend to take in spring or summer 2013. Then, we indeed would migrate to two "big boxes", instead of several smaller ones. This should enable much better load balancing than we have now, but since this is an additional migration, it will take a while - first finishing the current one. ;-)
But no matter what you do, it still takes a dedicated "team" of people to keep an eye on the servers and networked computers to keep it all going. This is not a "set it and forget it" like some people try to sell you.
