Yes, you're right on the technicalities ;-)
You could choose to go with that route if you wish.

Still, because (AFAIK) the new case+integration of OpenLDAP will
change the interfaces somewhat, it is probably safer to defer
depending on them until that happens (but I hope it can happen in
the short term future).

(Also, if/when Web Stack components start getting delivered outside of
SFW, that wouldn't hold for the existing OpenLDAP which is in SFW.)
