By "end user" I meant anyone who doesn't actively hack, for example, PHP or Apache itself, but instead builds applications on top of it using modules/languages. I suspect that includes you. > > It is currently not very much fun. Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like we could use a bit more of your feedback over in the web stack project. While the Web Stack project aims to get a stack put into Solaris, we also aim to build the best practices around how to use that stack, what the best configuration/compilation options are, etc. At least, that's what I'm pushing for and contributing to. :) That should help with the situation you describe. I can understand your desire to get a new version. We're also working in that project on catching up to where upstream projects currently are. One opinion I've expressed is that there will always be situations where people will need module X or extension Y to work with the stack in OpenSolaris. It sounds like you're saying the same, so it'd be good to explore how we can do this. Having said that, right now most everyone is more focused on the more mundane aspects of getting things updated and the build processes up to speed. > > Any of you happen to be in the chain of folks that could get PHP built > for solaris with postgresql support included directly in it? We have that in Cool Stack already and the current plan is to get the Web Stack components in sfwnv up to feature parity with what's in Cool Stack, so it will be fixed soon.
