actually I agree with Bill Maher on this one..........marijuana does very
little harm to the body. Certainly a lot less than alcohol!! Personally, I
think the public would be much better off if alcohol were illegal.

I smoked pot for many years as a young person. The only reason why I quit was
because a couple of Texas cops did an illegal search of my car and found it in
my car. I was able to escape charges but it cost me a lot of money for legal
representation. After that, the prospect of facing jail seemed more real to me
and I just didn't think the risk was worth it.

After having been a drinker also for many years, I also managed to give that up
too. But II can tell you that having to quit both, it was much, much easier to
quit pot! I had no addiction withdrawal symptoms with pot and was able to quit
immediately! With alcohol, it took me several times before I was able to
finally quit. And ultimately, the real reason that motivated me to quit
drinking was because I had broken several bones and the doctors told me my
bones would not heal as long as I was still drinking.

Plus, if a person gets high, the effect only lasts a short time. If a person
gets drunk, they will stay drunk for a long time! People also have more
control when they're high vs when they're drunk. People who are high are able
to drive, people who are drunk (very often) are not able to drive without
killing themselves and others.

Bill, I'm sorry your family had negative effects on pot but I would say those
effects are not normal. Are you sure they were only using pot and not some
other drug along with it? Or it could be the pot had been laced with some
other drug before they got it.

I've known many, many people in my life who have smoked pot and I have never
heard of anyone who had negative effects from smoking only pot. I have heard
of some people who just didn't care for it but no one who experienced negative
physical effects from smoking it.

About Sally's original question, if they prosecuted Phelps they would have to
prosecute everyone else at that party and that would be a huge expense to the
taxpayers! But then again, that hasn't stopped them from prosecuting people
before!

Tommy Chong is an excellent example of that!! He was busted for selling pipes
and bongs to people on the internet in 2003!! So while terrorism was emerging
as a major threat to this country, they thought it was important enough to bust
Tommy Chong for selling a few bongs?

In 2003, Chong was targeted by two American investigations code-named Operation
Pipe Dreams and Operation Headhunter, which sought out businesses selling drug
paraphernalia, mostly water pipes. Operation Pipe Dream was run from
Pittsburgh, PA. US Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan oversaw the case. The estimated
cost of Operation Pipe Dream was over $12 Million and included the resources of
2,000 law enforcement officers.

Chong was charged for his part in financing and promoting Chong Glass/Nice
Dreams, a company started by his son Paris. Chong's case never went to trial;
instead Chong accepted a plea agreement with the United States Attorney's
Office in which he admitted to distributing 7,500 bongs and water pipes on the
Internet through Nice Dreams, a family company that was named for one of his
movies. Chong agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute
drug paraphernalia in exchange for non-prosecution of his wife, Shelby, and his
son, Paris.

Some people can't drink alcohol either, alcohol is no longer prohibited.

Peanuts can be deadly to some.

It's (or rather should be) up to the individual to know if an item does them
more harm than good. IMPO

with apologies to Bill Maher on reflection I think not on this question. The
effects I have observed in one of my daughters and one grandson have not been
good. Even though I used in the 60's to a tiny bit I can't trust my results to
the general population.

Well, what does everyone think about this...People are calling for him
to be prosecuted and sent to jail!

Yes, he broke NC law...and so did everyone else at the party...so if
you prosecute him, all of them should be prosecuted......and I
understand it was a very large party....I'd say there may have been
underage drinking too so let's prosecute those too....and I bet some
were on prescription drugs, let's get them too....might have been some
fornicating going on too...NC has archaic laws and I bet they could
get
          them too...

Let's see if there were 200 at the party...that's 200 court appointed
lawyers and a couple of years for the trials...and appeals etc....is
that how NC really wants to spend it's money??
