I notice Chris got none of these things - only an SS card which wasn't allowable to get work. He got emergency care in an Austin hospital but his routine follow-up care and meds were not free once we were out of the homeless shelter. He could not get jobs until he received his green card which we did not get until we submitted a shedload of docs and hundreds of dollars in fees. He is MARRIED to a US citizen! No food stamps, no free education, no credit cards, no subsidized rent, no house loan, no welfare. Plus he's got a teaching certificate, experience in a number of school districts, and speaks English better than most Americans. Yet he is not welcome in the US until July 2010. Admittedly, we messed up our paperwork and made the bad mistake of trying to go to Canada for a few days and he was banished for 5 years. Kinda harsh I think to break up a 11-yr marriage! I'm very worried when we're driving thru AZ if he should be stopped by a cop whether he'll be hassled since he'll just b a visitor @ that time - with no visa, no nothin! I just tell him - don't speak, don't even drive! let's get thru this blasted state until we reach California's border!
