Brief follow-up:
Yes, it's a local networking problem. My Linux box is currently unable to
talk to the outside world. However, my W2K box can, so I downloaded the
Windows binary for cvs, and used that to pull down the latest sources
directly onto my Linux box via Samba. So all is well.

Yup, I'm on a T1 and can do all that. BUT, I am behind a firewall which has
been tweaked lately, and it's quite possible that this is the problem. So
I'll pursue it further from this end. Thanks, Chuck.

Is your network working general? Can you ping known sites like
www.yahoo.com and browse the web?
I just issued these 2 commands, and go a valid workspace:
cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/webware login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/webware
co Webware
