Patrice, Shoot, I just wrote this long reply and Mark and John beat me to the punch :) Here are some more detail thoughts just in case you need more depth.
When we were debating the changes in the Testing and Certification White Paper, we wanted to limit the scope of the paper to compliance to the Implementation Guides. All of us felt uncomfortable with the Levels terminology since it infers a hierarchical approach to testing. In the end, we decided to define the Types of edits that are specified explicitly in the IGs. Types 1 through 6 are the same as Levels 1 through 6. Since there were Payer specific edits in the Implementation Guides from Medicare and Indian Health, we created a new type called Type 7. As for the edits that are partner specific outside the IGs (mostly payer edits), since we are only allowed to reject HIPAA data that is not compliant with the guides, we felt that this topic should be reserved for the Business to Business Testing white paper. In that paper and in the upcoming Front-end Edits document, it will describe its business terms. We were shying away from using Type 8 since there would be implications that it is part of Implementation Guide compliance. Come join the fun on the Testing calls every other Thursday, next one being December 5th, 11:00 EST. Regards, Ed Edward A. This is for a communication piece or MN HIPAA Collaborative is working on. Our plans are to delve more into that subject in the Business to Business Testing white paper. _______________________________________________ John Lilleston Technical Supervisor Verizon Information Technologies, Inc. Would we call this "Type 8" testing?
