Hello everyone-

I previously posted this information to the Transactions Listserve but William Kammerer reminded me not everyone from this list belongs the Transactions list so I'm posting it again as an FYI.  If you've already received this information, please forgive the duplicate.

Take a look at the announcement on Health Data Management about the HIPAA Compliance Conformance Organization's (HCCO) Common Compliance Assessment Program (CCAP) the goal of which is to bring about common compliance validation edits.

About 15 vendors plan to participate in the February test.

Lack of standardized HIPAA edits impedes a swift B2B implementation.  SNIP has always understood this to be true which is why on page 15 of our Transaction Compliance and Certification white paper we say:

"Because of the lack of standardization of the criteria for testing and certification, we are recommending the formation of a consortium of those vendors who supply testing and certification tools. The formation of this consortium will help to ensure the consistent interpretation of the Implementation Guide rules and the consistent rollout of those rules as they are incorporated into the various tools/services."

Hopefully SNIP and its participants will fully embrace HCCO and the CCAP which seem to have brought to fruition what we said we needed all along but were unable to establish ourselves.   The last time I heard this effort brought up in the Testing SWG it seemed to be decided that establishing such a program was not really possible for SNIP, would take to long and be too complicated a process.  Thank goodness another organization with a similar charter found the resources and wherewithal to get the job done!
