I think that it is
useful to ask yourself this question:
Are you trying to meet
minimal requirements, or are you trying to "do it right the first time" and also
reduce the volume of phone calls inquiring about benefits?
If you support only the
general inquiry of type 30-Health Benefit Plan Coverage,
then the volume of phone calls is only going to drop
marginally--but at
least you'll be compliant.
If, however, you truly want
the 270/271 functionality to be useful, even if not all providers will send
detailed inquiries, you will probably be better off spending some extra time now
and support detailed responses, because "enhancements" usually doesn't
get as high of a priority as "requirements".
Additionally-- if the
responses are always the general inquiry response, there will be no motivation
for providers to enhance their systems to send specific
inquiries.
