I doubt it takes much more processing power to access the serial port on an RPi, than on any other machine --- the baud rates are pretty slow --- but, I could certainly be wrong.
I have also had mysterious increases and decreases in my rxCheckPercent. There was one period a few weeks ago, when it fell into the 50% range precisely at midnight, stayed there for 3 days, then went back up to 99%, again precisely at midnight.
