I have some of my OWFS sensors located several hundred feet from the Rpi that is running weewx. I am using CAT5 wire to connect everything. In this location, the wireless stuff I tried just was not reliable, there are several radio/tv transmitters relatively nearby, and that may be part of the problem. I was using the WMR100 and 200 and in some cases the wireless wouldn't get me a reliable connection to a sensor twenty feet away.
I am using FileParse as my driver (I have BMP085 barometer chip connected to the Rpi and a little python program to read data and write to a file for file parse) the OWFS runs as a service. All of the OWFS stuff has been solid with the exception of the Inspeed Wind Vane, which appears to be bad. Of course it worked great in the lab for six month and waited to fail until it was mounted up high. Too slick to be up on the roof to investigate. My version uses a hall effect transducer, which it seems may be susceptible to damage from voltage spikes. The station location had several tree caused outages and was running on generator for awhile, so there may have been some spikes. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "weewx-user" group.
