The command lsusb will tell you what devices are on the bus, but it will
not tell you which port (if any) they have been mapped to.

Sounds like the cp210x driver module is not getting loaded or does not
exist on your system. It's the driver needed for a USB device on the bus to
be treated as a serial device.

To see if it exists, look in /lib/modules and subdirectories. A command line

find /lib/modules -type f -name "*.ko"|grep cp21


will get you started. If you can find it, then you can load it:

sudo modprobe cp210x
