Your decision!!  Personally I prefer my rpi to have a hdd when it is being 
used as a 'real' computer, and a decent power supply helps with usb 
issues.  The rpi can be finicky and temperamental where power is 
concerned.  Everyone has their own 'solution' though, so i do not argue!!!
