Right, ok I saw the driver that intercepts the wifi data, so that's a clue. The electronics and hardware is no problem, I have sensors reporting back to a microcontroller, it's the networking stuff that's all new. The 'no wrong way' is encouraging, just really want to go down the path of least resistence finding an architechture thats simple and requires least learning of new skills. I'm going to get a rpi and play, I think that's the best way forward for the next couple of weeks then see how far I get. Thanks everyone..for now!
