I really do not see how you can 'convert' snowfall to rainfall - surely 
they are different things.  Thomas's heated rain gauge does indeed sound 
like a slightly better way to go.

You could always add a 'ConvertedSnow' column to the database, put your 
converted snow value into a txt file and have a service to read the file 
and put the data into the database for you (and delete the file once it has 
been processed).  This way you would have real rainfall kept separately to 
the convertedsnow value within the database.  See the customisation 
documentation for adding columns and services.
