I tried wee_device:

sudo wee_device /etc/weewx/weewx.conf --set-interval=5
Using configuration file /etc/weewx/weewx.conf
Using FineOffsetUSB driver version 1.8 (weewx.drivers.fousb)
Interval is 30
Set interval to 5 minutes (y/n)? y
Interval is now 30

Looks like wee_device will not update interval? Is there something I can
update manually?

The MySQL DB is extern. The weewx-machine is at the cottage and the
DB-server is at home. The DB is steadily being updated, so it might have
something to do with a timeout.
