There are a few things you need to keep in mind when applying min/max QC
limits to rain and rainRate. First up the QC min/max limits are applied to
both loop packet and archive record data. A temperature min/max of -40 to
60C will probably work fine for almost all folks for both loop and archive
data; a temperature of 70C is equally invalid for both loop and archive
data. Min/max limits for rain are a little different, as the value is now
dependent on the period over which the data is gathered; for example a
limit of 0 to 5mm may be fine for loop data but may be unsuitable for
archive data given that archive data almost always covers a period longer
than loop data. Similarly, a min/max setting for someone with a 1 minute
archive interval may not be suitable for someone with a 5 minute archive
interval or a 30 minute archive interval. For instance, I checked my 'top
20' archive period rain values and they ranged from 10mm down to 7mm so
clearly anything less that 10mm for me would cause me to loose valid data.

Then there is rainRate. I have no intentions of debating the methods of
determining rainRate but in most cases the value can vary widely so a
fairly generous number is usually required. Furthermore if you have WeeWX
calculate rainRate bear in mind that in a standard WeeWX install QC checks
are applied before WeeWX calculates rainRate. So in such cases specifying a
rainRate limit actually has no effect since there is no rainRate value to
QC. Also, in such cases if your QC check has discarded the rain value then
there will be no rainRate value calculated for that loop packet/archive
record.

Just want to point out that a little bit of thought and understanding of
how WeeWX handles rain is needed before applying rain/rainRate QC limits.
