I do not think your problem is related to the "weighting" problem. It affected only the daily summaries and, even then, only fields that are weighted by the archive length. Wind direction is not one of them.
Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with any of the drivers and services you are using. If I understand correctly, the data in question was collected by interceptor.py. I would assume that's where the problem is. Does the driver emit windGustDir on every LOOP packet? Or, does it rely on software record generation to provide it at the end of an archive period?
