Since when does macOS have Linux roots? macOS is derived from BSD Unix. However, Apple has locked system directories down in some annoying ways. I do have an unofficial MacPorts Portfile for weewx: https://github.com/Schamschula/macports/tree/master/science/weewx <https://github.com/Schamschula/macports/tree/master/science/weewx> Not well tested, as I run weewx under FreeBSD.
