Of course, stop weewx while doing the reset.

In case you can't find the manual, the reset process is:
press the "rain" area on the console 2 or 3 times until it shows 
"accumulated" rainfall.  The date area will show you when the counter was 
started.
At this stage there will be a "mem" button on the bottom row.  Press and 
hold that until the accumulated rainfall shows zero.

restart weewx, and the log should now tell you  " possible missed rain 
event: new=0.0 old=None".

I just did this myself as an experiment.
