Immaterial VM or not.
Likewise with the data source.
Certs come from lets encrypt

-rw-r--r-- 1 mosquitto mosquitto 2143 Dec 21 00:02 cert.pem
-rw-r--r-- 1 mosquitto mosquitto 1802 Dec 21 00:02 chain.pem
-rw-r--r-- 1 mosquitto mosquitto 3268 Dec 21 00:02 privkey.pem

Mosquitto conf is default except the paths and my pwfile and acl
persistence false
allow_anonymous true
password_file /etc/mosquitto/pwfile
acl_file /etc/mosquitto/acl
# Insecure mqtt to localhost only, and secure mqtt

certfile /etc/mosquitto/certs/cert.pem
cafile /etc/mosquitto/certs/chain.pem
keyfile /etc/mosquitto/certs/privkey.pem
protocol mqtt

# websockets
listener 8080
certfile /etc/mosquitto/certs/cert.pem
cafile /etc/mosquitto/certs/chain.pem
keyfile /etc/mosquitto/certs/privkey.pem

Good for you. How exactly did you set it up ?

Is it a VM on Internet ?
What's your mosquitto conf file look like ?
Which cert files are installed where and with what permissions ?
Where did you get the certs ?

Your 'about' page says you're using a wifilogger2 - is it feeding a weewx
site on weather.ghammer.net ? If so how ?

I do not access my website locally via IP address (LAN) and also from the
Internet differently.
I use https://weather.ghammer.net for both.
Why? As mentioned earlier, cert mismatch and the secure/insecure mix
rejection.
Quick and easy for 'live' pages using MQTT

Did you succeed for both goals ? Live data working on your LAN ? Live
data accessible from Internet ?

If so, how did you get the latter working specifically so others can try it
? Looking for more than "I installed this". Looking for actual
instructions others might be able to follow and also succeed....

(answering 'fixed' or 'got it but I have not idea how' does not help the
next person trying to do the same thing....)
