Because we occasionally talk about baby names here...  (and after this, "Beak" is starting to seem ok)

A friend recently had a baby, and I went to the hospital nursery web page to look her up.  They list the names there, and in the March and April, this hospital in a very white, homogenous town in the midwest (city population of around 50,000) has had some interesting ones.

I of course mean no offense to any parents on the list who have given their kids any of these names - I'm not judging...just noting, as Gene would say.  I'm amazed at the variety of spelling of some of them, and also all the duplicates!  I especially like the variations on Madison (And we all know how Gene feels about that name)

Has anyone here read Freakonomics?  There's a really interesting chapter in there on baby names as differentiated by parents' education levels and socioeconomic status.

Here's a sampling (there were of course a smattering of more traditional names)
