MUTTS is one of the few strips I've followed since its inception. I
agree with you that it's sometimes (ENOUGH WITH THE SHELTER STORIES
ALREADY) preachy and saccharine... but it is also occasionally very
funny... which is more I can say for the preachy, saccharine FOR
BETTER OR FOR WORSE, which really used to be one of my favorite
strips, but God, it's like SHELTER STORIES EVERY DAY!!!

And is there any WORSE strip than FUNKY WINKERBEAN, which, about,
uhh, 30 years ago, was funny, but now it's like FOR BETTER OR FOR
WORSE, except with smirking characters you just don't care about.

Back to MUTTS: when it's good, it's both funny and well-drawn, but
the stretches between great panels seems to be getting longer and
longer. It might be one of those strips that's best viewed in a
collection.

McDonnell's squirrels, crab and mussel are my favorite non-PEARLS or
FUZZY animals in the comix.
