There is as much to be said for PREDICTABILITY in humor as there is in
surprise. One of my all-time favorite movies (Laurel and Hardy BUSY
BODIES) has a sequence in a sawmill... as soon as you see the circular
saw blades hanging on the wall, you KNOW that they're going to fall on
someone's head. But once they fall, it's no less funny (and maybe it's
even moreso) because you could see it coming a million miles away.
I have no idea why this is so.
