This kind of sham marriage happens in all cultures, not just Islamic ones. For example, gay or lesbian U.S. citizens whose partners are non-citizens used to arrange for their non-citizen partners to marry U.S. citizens in order to be permitted to stay in the country. I once heard of a gay male couple and a lesbian couple, each of which had one U.S. citizen partner and one non-citizen partner. They had a double wedding. The justice of the peace was so moved that these "close friends" wanted to have a double ceremony that he got weepy. Unfortunately for such couples, the INS began cracking down on these marriages, even well before 9/11. Then there's Ang Lee's first movie, "The Wedding Banquet." It was about an Asian gay man who married a U.S. immigrant so she could get her green card -- and so he could get his family off his back. IOW, there's nothing new about this phenomenon. It's just that some straight reporter came across some ads posted by gay Muslims and smelled a story. ------------------------ Yahoo!
