Hi everyone,

I'm Molly. I feel compelled to come out of hiding now that Daria
talked about me being at SUUSI with her...

As long as we're talking about UUs... Unitarians are the older
church, originally based on the concept of a Unity, not a Trinity.
It was a fairly common denomination early on in our country's
history-- Ben Franklin, the Adams presidents, Paul Revere, Thomas
Jefferson (well, he said he'd be a Unitarian if he bothered to go to
church) were all Unitarians. They were very much into the use of
reason as an individual-- much more than doctrine. The
Universalists believed in universal salvation-- that God loved us
too much to condemn anyone to hell for eternity. Gradually they
both became much less credal, though Unitarians were still
more "head" and Universalists were still more "heart." Makes for
some interesting dichotomies.

There are still a few purely Christian UU churches-- Kings Chapel in
Boston is the most famous of them. They still believe in rational
thought, exploring your own beliefs, etc. that all UUs share.

Anyway, I don't know if this adds to the discussion, but there it
is. I do find it amusing when fundamentalists refer to the sacred
religion of the founding fathers as a reason for bringing
Christianity back into government. They should read the Jefferson
Bible sometime. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible

Sorry... I don't think any of this was very funny. Maybe that's why
I've never posted before...

Molly
