In defense of those in South Rockville who would call it North Bethesda (my grandmom being one of those): southern Rockville was actually part of Bethesda until an annexation in the '60s.  Now as for all those wanks in Kensington wanting to call it East Bethesda...

People who *don't* live in Potomac *do* like to use variants
on "Potomac" (such as "East Potomac") to label where they live. Like
those who don't live in Georgetown (Glover Park = "North Georgetown"),
and those who don't live in Bethesda (South Rockville = "North
Bethesda").
