A big (and creepy) part of the "adultification" is sexualization. These "pageants" have always seriously creep me out. They're sexualizing preschoolers, trying to make them seem sophisticated.
These are the kinds of discussions you have at the dinner table when your partner is also in the behavioral sciences. (That's my non-skeevy explanation for why I've thought this out.) -Max H.
