I have to confess, I loved the first half of Wicked, and then he totally lost me; I just couldn't finish it (which is too bad, since what I remember was a really neat meditation on the nature of evil.)  Alas, the idea could not support the prose.

Dana, did you read any of his other books?  Are they worth checking out?
