Ellen-centric reply: I memorized that, the Divine Miss E. Anchorman has reached my Memorization Plateau.
There are films that come along every few years that I somehow feel compelled to pretty much memorize through osmosis. When I was younger, the three films I could quote verbatim were Star Wars, Spaceballs, Major League and A Christmas Story. Four, FOUR films I could quote were Star Wars, Spaceballs, Major League, A Christmas Story and Monty Python and the Holy Grail...the five, FIVE films...eh, you get the point. I need a comfy chair for my ex-parrot, you silly bunt. When I was in college, everybody around me was quoting Ace Ventura, but I didn't pay that much mind. I was rediscovering the joys of Spinal Tap. And, like any other self-respecting Gen-X guy, of course, Swingers. I know, I'm money and I don't even know it. After school, I nearly memorized two other Christopher Guest/Michael McKeon films, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind. Sadly, I've never been a huge fan of Waiting For Guffman because I thought Corky was too stereotypical, though it's still a funny movie. It never struck a chord with me like the other ones. And, um, yeah...I went ahead and memorized Office Space. Did you get that memo? Thanks! You may have seen a dragon fly. You may ever seen a super fly. But you ain't never seen a donkey fly!...so, yeah, I memorized Shrek. I never cared for him much on SNL, but Will Ferrell's movies absolutely kill me. He was good for a couple of bits a season on the show, but most of his movie roles are so spot-on, I can't not laugh. He made Old School enjoyable, was solid in the Austin Powers movies, and is fantastic in Talladega Nights. I liked Anchorman when I saw it in the theater. I thought it was funny, but I didn't realize was how many hilarious lines are in the movie until I got it on DVD a few months later. It is so outlandish, and the cast is so fantastic, and how incredibly funny Steve Carell, Fred Willard, Paul Rudd, David Koetchner, Christina Applegate, etc... all are! So, I love lamp. I killed a man with a trident. You're so wise. Like a miniature Buddha all covered in fur. In my other role as a food critic (www.dcfud.com), I grade things using Champ Kind's Whammy! More Whammy! = More Better. I do the same on my blog (obpopcultref.blogspot.com), but not really as food- centric. My Memorized Movies: Star Wars A Christmas Story Major League Spaceballs Monty Python and the Holy Grail Spinal Tap Swingers Best in Show A Mighty Wind Office Space Shrek (and almost Shrek 2) Anchorman What movies do you guys have committed to memory? I would imagine those of you with young kids know all those Disney films by now...which, frankly, is my biggest fear. --- In [email protected], "Ellen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I KNEW that sounded familiar, just couldn't place it.
