I also watched, but I'm a huge Survivor fan, so I would have watched even without the race element. It was definitely an entertaining episode, although I think Lisa DeMoreas was spot on in her review. She focused on the people that talked about their race's stereotypes, and how that allowed the producers to highlight the stereotypes without saying them themselves. I think it must have gone even further than she said -- that the producers in the individual interviews probably prompted the survivors to say those things. I'm most intrigued by what will happen at the merge, since historically alliances were set up in tribes, so, theoretically, the alliances will be by race when they merge.
Okay, this was a pretty geeked out Survivor analysis. Sorry if you don't give a crap. --- In [email protected], "Maureen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > i'll bite - i watched it - at first i was a little flabbergasted at > a "race" race (and it seemed the contestants were as well) - then i > started to get into it as a very interesting social experiment - now, > i think it's complete genius! you could totally see the "stereotypes" > come into play... i think it's gonna be a good show to watch - and > since i'm hispanic, i'm clearly rooting for the asians... i mean, > um... the hispanics... my mom grew up in the jungles of panama > without electricity or plumbing - i often thought how well she would > do on survivor when i watch how helpless the contestants were in the > beginning of the show... it feels like they read my mind! i loved it > when the guy climbed the palm tree for the coconuts - that's what my > mom said when she first watched survivor! she said, "those people are > stupid! i'd have gotten some coconuts, built a shelter with palms > leaves, fished... i'd be sitting pretty!" hahaha... > > --- In [email protected], "Daria Akers" > <daria.akers@> wrote: > > > > What did you think about the first episode of Survivor's racial > > experiment?
