Way too many writer's use apostrophe's for purpose's for which they were never intended, such as for constructing plural's. But in case's where unfamiliar acronym's are involved, I find this practice (which is otherwise one of my pet peeve's) less objectionable. With familiar subject's (VCR's, UFO's, etc.), unnecessary apostrophe's should still be avoided.
