after I posted the message I realized his band is called Daughtry, not him individually. The American Idol guy was the only music-related person I had heard of named Daughtry to I thought it was him before I googled it. On Idol you can't sing original stuff, right? You have to sing published songs, I think. If your stuff is already published then obviously you aren't amateur and would probably be disqualified.
