A hard-up graduate has sold his soul on an internet
auction site for �11.61. Artist Gareth Malham came up
with the idea after watching an episode of the Simpsons
in which Bart makes a similar transaction. The 26-year-
old, of Byker, Newcastle, posted an advert on the eBay
site and his soul was bought by a man from Oklahoma
for �11.61. Mr Malham said the buyer wanted a new soul
as he had lost his own in a bet over a game of air hockey.
He said he would sign over his soul by writing a legal
document in his own blood when he receives his cheque.
Japanese police say a resident of a high rise block threw
beer bottles at Brazil fans because their noisy celebrations
made him angry. They say he shouted: "Shut up" to the
fans as they celebrated their second round World Cup win
over Belgium. The man whose apartment block is near
Kobe's Wing Stadium allegedly threw the empty bottles
from his 12th floor flat. No-one was hit but one bottle
damaged a car. The 53-year-old was arrested for wilful
destruction of property.
A Romanian is in a critical condition after being set on
fire in exchange for a free drink. Police say the man's
attacker asked if he'd get a drink if he set fire to the
35-year-old in a bar. He then sprinkled gas on his victim's
back and set it alight. The National newspaper reports
he said goodbye to his victim before igniting the gas but
people in the bar just thought it was a bad joke. Nicu
Slavu, who said he'd never met his attacker before, suffered
serious injuries to 50% of his body.
