A Belgian drink-driver was found eating grass in a field.
He told a judge that he was fond of its taste. Witnesses
said they saw the man crawl out of his car on his hands
and knees. He crawled into a field, in Berlare, and began
eating the grass. When police arrived he was still on his
knees and grunting like a pig. Police took him to hospital
where tests revealed he was over the drink-drive limit. In
court, the man told the judge: "I like eating grass, especially
when I'm drunk. It tastes like spinach." He was fined �680
and banned from driving for 45 days.
An Austrian police officer has been fined �1,000 for cutting
the emergency phone cables at a police station so he could
sleep off his hangover. The officer admitted to being drunk
when he started his night shift at the Leibnitz police station
in Styria, according to Austrian daily Krone. He slashed the
telephone cables and switched off the radio set so he would
not be disturbed and left the police station unable to receive
emergency calls for the entire night. He said: "I was drunk
and wanted to have peace and quiet to sleep off my
hangover."
High-powered water pistols have been banned in Thailand
ahead of the country's new year celebrations. New year is
celebrated in Thailand over six days in April and tradition
requires the sprinkling of water on relatives and friends.
The water sprinkling is supposed to be a symbolic call
for good rains ahead of the rice-planting season. But the
custom has evolved into boisterous water fights including
water pistol attacks.
