Two mortuary workers have been arrested on suspicion
of desecrating a Muslim woman's body by covering it with
rashers of bacon. A third man has also been arrested for
allegedly stealing items from bodies at the same mortuary.
When detectives raided his home in Uxbridge, west London,
they found 2,000 photographs and slides of corpses. The
desecration of the body of the woman, a 65-year-old
grandmother who died of cancer on January 17, was
discovered at Hillingdon Hospital mortuary in west London.
It is strictly against the Muslim religion to touch or eat
pork and detectives are treating it as a religiously or
racially motivated crime. Officers are also investigating
the desecration of a second woman's body at the same
mortuary in 1996. The body of the white woman had
been marked with a pen. The hospital conducted an
internal inquiry in 1996 but did

and a pair of sandals crashed his bike after he was
stung on the inner thigh by a bee. The 36-year-old, who
had been driving to the swimming area at a German
nudist colony, lost control of the bike as he swatted
the insect away. He fell on to the road, but escaped
with just a shoulder injury and minor cuts and bruises.
Police said they are considering pressing charges
after the incident at Giessen in Hessen - as the man
was not wearing a crash helmet.
A Japanese postman says his life is being made a
misery by an angry pheasant which chases and attacks
him as he does his rounds. Mutsumi Oki says the cock
bird lies in wait for him each day as he rides his red
motorbike around the Yagitsure district of Myogi. Oki,
38, told the Asahi Shimbun: "The bird always scares
me because whenever it sees me it comes at me at
full speed with such an aggressive look." Keisuke Ueda,
professor of ornithology at Rikkyo University, says the
pheasant probably sees Oki as a rival. He said: ``Male
pheasants have a red hanging protrusion on their
gullet. About this time they become especially jittery
because their breeding season starts from spring to
summer. The bird might be reacting to the motorbike's
red colour, seeing it as a rival male, trespassing on
his territory.''
