 Saying RMS said that BSD is unacceptable is an exaggeration. The FSF does list BSD in its directory of free licenses. It's just that the FSF promotes copyleft licenses more. RMS even said that they use lots of BSDs at the FSF. As an example, rms agreed that in the case of Ogg Vorbis it was better to chose a BSD license as it would accelerate its use.

P.S. Personally i prefer Free Software concept, however i'm not religous
about it as RMS is.
